The academic project "Jane's Not Plain" showcases the development and process of a fictional cookbook inspired by a friend's vibrant personality and culinary flair. Departing from traditional recipe-focused formats, the project emphasizes personal narrative and creativity and was original photography.
My process took a lot of turns on this one, but ultimately I wanted a cover that was bright, feminine and clean while also maintaining the message of not being “plain”. It was a bit of a challenge even though I was just battling with my own idea. I was inspired by my friend who is an amazing cook and deserves her own cook book. I decided on the typography being the star of the show and creating a bit of movement with the baking dishes on either side serving as an assembly line with the centre being filled with vibrancy and flair. I wanted to take my own photos for this one because I didn’t feel like there were stock photos filling the need I had, the abundance and texture exploding as you open the relatively restrained cover was important to maintain the title message.
In conclusion, the journey of creating "Jane's Not Plain" cookbook has been an immensely fulfilling experience, both creatively and personally. Inspired by the vibrant personality of my dear friend Jane, whose zest for life and culinary adventures knows no bounds, this project became a heartfelt tribute to her unique spirit.
